Good, clear sounding radios. I like them. I like Midland products. I find that they are generally better than Motorolla’s cheap radios.I use these around the house and they have great clarity. So far they seem to be great “cheap” radios. They came with rechargable packs, which is convenient for when the kids leave them on and let the batteries die. When these fail. If you aren’t trying to communicate with miners 30 miles deep in the earth, these will be fine. Works so far as described.So far, I have only tested these radios on the low-power FRS channels. At 1.6 miles and line-of-sight, the audio was crystal clear. Even at 1.1 miles, with lots of residential buildings interfering, the low-power FRS channel still was useful for communication, though it had lots of static. Range depends entirely on the number and kinds of obstructions in your operating area. All these public frequency walkie talkies are pretty similar to one another in terms of performance, and the ones with “16 mile” range are definitely not as strong as those with “30 mile” range (like these ones), but ALL of them suffer from two key shortcomings: 1) their makers’ statements about “maximum range” are misleading/confusing to inexperienced users, and 2) none of them do very well in areas where there are a lot of physical obstructions between the two (or…
